Goran Aleksic for magazine CORD: Relations on an ascending line PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 20 June 2013.
Goran AleksicBritain and Serbia have a long history of international relations. Historically, what are the key points of this cooperation?

Last year marked the 175th anniversary of the establishment of a British consulate in Belgrade, in 1837. Over that long period, relations between the two countries were, by and large, good and their historical alliance was the hallmark of these relations. Since the year 2000 they have been on the rise, characterized by constant British support for our European aspirations. In the last year, after the new Serbian Government was formed, there has been a dynamic and meaningful political dialogue going on, which is proof that their bilateral relations have been improving.

Speech by Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Ljubica Vasic at the Institute of International Politics and Economics “Challenges and Perspectives of EU Integration of Western Balkan Countries” PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 20 June 2013.
ljubica-vasic-250Distinguished participants, experts,
Ladies and gentlemen,

I would like, first of all, to thank the organizer and express my expectation that we will have, today, a fruitful quality discussion on an important current topic of interest to Serbia, the region and Europe, as well.

In the years of economic crisis and political instability, we have learned a great deal about ourselves, our countries and our mutual relations. Faced with a new political and economic map of the world where the flow of economic power running towards the East continues unabated, the European countries have found themselves in a situation that apparently calls for redefinition of the environment and mechanisms on whose foundations we are building stability and security, ensuring economic growth and prosperity of our citizens. Since World War II, the peoples of Europe have never been more aware of the interdependence of their economies and their overall relations.

Serbia to be given a date and not the green light! PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 19 June 2013.
Mrkic - BoninoItaly was of the view that reaching of the agreement in Brussels and all that Serbia was doing to have it implemented was good enough reason for the European Council to make a positive decision and name a specific date for the opening of accession negotiations with Serbia, said Italian Foreign Minister Emma Bonino following her talks with Serbian Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkic. She said that there were no new conditions for Serbia over a date for the start of negotiations, adding that it was, nevertheless, possible that Serbia would be given the green light instead of a specific date. That was not the position held by Italy, and we would insist that Serbia be indicated a clear date, said Bonino. The European Council meeting of 28 June was an important historical date not only for Serbia but also for the Union itself, observed Bonino. Italy's FM Emma Bonino believes that no new conditions, legal or political, would be attached to Serbia to be named a date.
