 Is what the Deputy Prime Minister of Greece and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos stressed during a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivan Mrkic in New York, on the fringes of the UN General Assembly meeting. The two Ministers exchanged views on the situation in the Western Balkans, the progress of the negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina and the preparations for the local elections in Kosovo. Venizelos said that Greece was firmly committed to the Euro Atlantic perspective of the Western Balkans. The Greek Minister assessed that the agreement between Belgrade and Pristina was historic and commended the Serbian leadership for their courage to make such a decision.

 During the UNGA session in New York, regarding the address of the Iranian President, Serbian Foreign Minister Mrkic gave a statement for Russian RTV emphasizing: "The Iranian President demonstrated in his address that the leadership of his country is approaching the current problems in a new way, which gives hope that this will serve as a basis for progress in resolving the Iranian issue"

 Serbian Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkic assessed at the break from the UN General Assembly debate in New York that Serbia was much sought after as an interlocutor on the world stage nowadays, and that its suggestions were taken seriously, adding that until a few years ago this was not the case.
