Statement Regarding the Situation in Egypt |

With regards to the latest developments related to the security situation in Egypt, where a state of emergency was declared on Thursday 14 August, based on the information provided by the Serbian Embassy in Cairo, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs cautions Serbian nationals who are on vacation in the Egyptian resorts that the 7 PM- to- 6 AM curfew imposed by the Egyptian government, also applies to tourists. Therefore, we appeal to tourists from Serbia, some 700 of them in Hurghada, not to leave their hotel complex at that time.

Mrkic: Serbia is not pursuing a policy of minority assimilation |

Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivan Mrkic assessed today that Serbia was the very top of the list in terms of respect, protection and institutional assistance to national minorities and that it had never conducted the policy of minority assimilation.

Mrkic: Professionalism, the main criterion in the new Law on diplomacy |

The new Foreign Affairs Law will provide that professional rather than political criteria be prevalent in diplomacy, stated Serbian Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkic. The draft Law on foreign affairs should ensure, among other things, that in diplomatic appointments - professionalism, experience and knowledge of foreign languages have priority over politics.

Lithuania will help Serbia open negotiations by end of year |

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius said today in Belgrade that his country, which is currently holding the EU Presidency, would do all it could so that Serbia may formally begin its membership negotiations by the end of the year. "Our task, as the Lithuanian EU Presidency, by year's end is to do everything possible to facilitate cooperation between Serbia and the EU and ensure that under our Presidency, Serbia formally opens membership negotiations", said Linkevičius at a joint news conference with Serbian Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkić. Minister Linkevičius reiterated his country's position that it fully supported Serbia on its European integration path.
