Minister Mrkic’s interview for "Politika" PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 16 January 2013.
Ivan MrkicOf Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic's visit to Serbia we expect, first and foremost, to reaffirm what had already been discussed in the meetings that I had with Minister Vesna Pusic. In those meetings we agreed to develop what we share in common and not to be burdened by issues related to the past (which we naturally don't overlook because that is simply not possible) and not to be blocked by them to such an extent that we are unable to talk about the present and the future, says Mr. Ivan Mrkic, Head of Serbian diplomacy explaining in his interview with "Politika" how today's Belgrade meeting of Serbian and Croatian Prime Ministers was arranged.

Interview for Economic Survey newsmagazine PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 19 December 2012.
Q. How do you evaluate bilateral cooperation between Serbia and Japan?

A. Serbia and Japan have traditionally good and friendly relations. The year 2012 was the year of the 130th anniversary of the first correspondence between King Milan Obrenovic and Emperor Meiji, which was marked by a series of appropriate events in both countries. Serbia is one of the few countries that can pride themselves on such a jubilee in the cooperation with Japan. Certainly, there is a desire existing on both sides to further promote relations in all areas. Japan believes that Serbia is a key country in the SEE region as regards its geography, human, economic and natural resources. Japan is the largest single donor country to Serbia and one of its most important partners in Asia.
The only outstanding issue between the two countries is the fact that Japan has recognized Kosovo's unilaterally declared independence.

Interview of the Minister to the newspaper Blic PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 14 December 2012.
Q: Should in a kind of a fairy tale, our international counterparts were to accept, in its entirety, the Kosovo document, as prepared by the top state leadership, and referred to as a "Platform" in the media, we would be happy. And, we think it would be fair. And if it would not interfere with the interests of Albanians - Serbian Foreign Minister Ivana Mrkić says in an interview for "Blic" newspapers.

A: He, however, underlines that the document mentioned in the media is not the platform.
- "Non-paper" was given to the foreigners, it was a working document. There is no letterhead, no headings, nothing of the kind. It is our viewpoint, our contribution to the solution of the Kosovo issue, we would like it to be looked at that way. We have heard objections that Serbs are incapable of articulating what they want time and time again. We have put it down on paper and all of a sudden caused a big stir.

Interview for Anadolu news agency PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 14 December 2012.
Q: The Foreign Ministers of EU Member States concluded that the European Council, in the first half of 2013, should recommend that accession negotiations be opened with Serbia, if it pressed ahead with reforms and achieved a sufficient level of progress in its dialogue with Pristina. How do you see the fact that Serbia did not, actually, get the exact date for the start of negotiations? How frustrating is it for Serbia? Hasn't the EU in a way lived down the expectations of it, and what are the next steps to be taken by your country in this context?

A: We are happy with the conclusions of the Council of the European Union that were reaffirmed by the European Council as well. They open up the prospect for Serbia to be named in June 2013 a date for the commencement of its membership talks with the European Union. In particular, it is important that the conclusions verified the results of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue held at the level of Prime Ministers and the relevant representative of the provisional institutions of self-government in Kosovo and Metohija. Serbia will continue to make constructive efforts to that effect and to meet the EU membership requirements.
