It is with great pleasure that we welcome the agreement reached between the Russian Federation and the United States on resolving the situation in Syria. This created the opportunity for a peaceful solution and it will hopefully lead to the end of the suffering of the friendly Syrian people.
The Republic of Serbia expressed again its opposition to the use of chemical weapons. We find very encouraging that an agreement has been reached which should result in the further elimination of this type of weapons of mass destruction and, as a signatory to the Convention on the prohibition of chemical weapons and on their destruction, we are strongly committed to its complete disappearance.
We expect the report of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon assured an objective presentation of the findings of the UN Mission which identified the factual condition in the field.
We believe it is of the utmost importance to ensure that the UN Security Council be the only place where decisions on these issues will be made, with all the prerogatives enshrined in the UN Charter.
