Antwerp: Exhibition "Ivo Andric – between writer and diplomat" opened

altOn 7 November at the University Library in Antwerp, exhibition "Ivo Andric – between writer and diplomat" was staged in Belgium for the fourth time, thanks to the work done by the Serbian Embassy in Brussels and honorary consul Aleksandar Davidovic. The exhibition sponsored by the Belgrade City Museum with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia comprises 20 panels which offer an overview of the life and work of Ivo Andric as a diplomat. The author of the exhibition is Ms.Tatjana Koricanac, director of the Belgrade City Museum and curator at the Ivo Andric Museum.

Exhibition in Antwerp was opened by Ambassador Marina Jovicevic who talked about the diplomatic career of Ivo Andric. She remarked that Ivo Andric best represented what Europe was about, as he had lived and worked across Europe in a challenging period between the two World Wars, and had portrayed in the best way the multi-religious and multi-ethnic context of our region in his books.

Herman Van Goethem, rector of the University of Antwerp, and professor Slobodanka Moravcevic from Ghent University – who talked about the literary oeuvre of Ivo Andric, both spoke at the opening ceremony. The exhibition was attended by professors and students from the University of Antwerp and Ghent University, as well as by the members of Serbian diaspora.

Following the opening of the exhibition, the Serbian Embassy prepared Serbian wine, brandy and home-made snacks for the guests.

Earlier, the exhibition was held in Brussels for representatives of the EU Institutions, at Ghent University and at the College of Europe in Bruges.
