Tokyo: Seminars on Serbian cultural heritage held in Japanese

altOn 2 February, in the context of the "Serbian Month" project, the Embassy in Tokyo hosted a "Serbian Day" which included a series of seminars and workshops about the Serbian cultural heritage, language, folk dances and traditional cuisine, all held in the Japanese language. The free admission "Serbian Day" was co-hosted with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on the premises of the JICA Global Plaza.

The Serbian language workshop was held by Mr. Chihaya Oyaizu and Ms. Ivana Golubovic Duboka from the Serbian Embassy, who provided general information about Serbia and its language, the Cyrillic script, and also taught those in attendance some Serbian words used in greeting and simple expressions.

Writer Branka Takahashi showcased Serbian heritage in Kosovo and Metohija inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in a video presentation, while students attending Toyo Eiwa Jogakuin University presented Serbian folk music and dances. The attendees had an opportunity to be taught steps of the Serbian "Uzicko kolo" folk dance by the presenters. Ms. Tijana Nagato of the Serbian Embassy prepared meals traditionally served on Christmas Day, patron saint days (slava) and at Easter time.

The "Serbian Month" event, held from 7 January to 8 February, includes a photographic exhibition of Serbian scenic beauties, its world heritage sites, Serbian famous athletes and traditional home industry artefacts, provided courtesy of the Embassy with the assistance of the National Tourism Organization of Serbia, Serbian Olympic Committee and the Nikola Tesla Museum, as well as videos on Serbia and an opportunity to sample Serbian dishes.
