Brussels, May 2012 - The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the European Union was the venue on 21 May-11 June 2012 of an exhibition "Serbian coins from the 13th to the 21st centuries", which was organized by the National Bank of Serbia (Central Bank) and the Serbian Cultural Institute of Novi Sad, with the support of the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Exhibition was opened by the Governor of the National Bank of Serbia, Mr Dejan Soskic.

National Theatre at the Globe |

London, May 2012 - Within the Shakespeare Festival held on the occasion of the London Olympic Games 2012, the Globe Theatre in London was the venue of performances in 37 world languages, over a period of 100 days, of all the 37 plays written by William Shakespeare. On 11 May and 13 May 2012, his play "Henry VI" was performed by the National Theatre of Belgrade directed by Nikita Milivojevic, which was followed by lectures, concerts and an exhibition. Participation of Serbian artists at the Shakespeare Festival in London was made possible by the Laza Kostic Fund, Belgrade, supported by the Serbian Ministry of Culture, Media and Information Society, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Serbian Embassy in London.

Milena Pavlovic Barilli Exhibition - Rijeka |

Rijeka, April 2012 - The Museum of the city of Rijeka, on 17 April - 4 May 2012, staged an exhibition of Milena Pavlovic Barilli's paintings "Waves and Stars Brought Together". The exhibition presented 48 of her works from all stages of her life as a painter, as well as sketches of her fashion designs and cover pages of fashion magazines, and even the poems that she wrote. Her verses in Italian and Serbian were read by an actress of the Croatian National Theatre "Ivan Zajc" in Rijeka, whereas the 20 dresses made according to the artist's sketches were worn at a fashion show arranged on that occasion by members of the St. Nicholas Sing and Dance Company. The exhibition was opened by Serbian Ambassador in Zagreb, Mr. Stanimir Vukicevic in the presence of numerous invited guests, including senior officials of the county and city of Rijeka, representatives of the Serbian communities of Pula, Umag, Rasa, Viskovo, Opatija and others. All local media covered the event emphasizing that this was the first showing of Milena Pavlovic Barilli's works in Rijeka and the Republic of Croatia, as a whole. Croatian national television HTV had a thorough report on it. The exhibition was organized by the Milena Dom Foundation, Milena Pavlovic Barilli Gallery of Pozarevac, Serbian Cultural Institute "Prosveta" and the Community of the Italians of Rijeka, with the support of the Serbian Ministry of Culture, Media and Information Society, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Consulate General of Serbia in Rijeka.

First Serbian Contemporary Film Week |

Athens, March 2012 - In cooperation with the Serbian Film Centre and the Greek Film Library, the Athens Embassy sponsored, on 8-14 March 2012, a Festival "First Serbian Contemporary Film Week" where 13 feature and two documentary films were screened. Eminent Serbian directors and actors attended the screening of their movies, and Director Emir Kusturica welcomed the movie fans at the opening via a video link. In parallel with this event, a roundtable "Balkan filmmaking: prospects, cooperation and co-production" was also held. Due to its enormous success, the Festival, as agreed, will become a traditional event.

Rabat, February 2012 - In commemoration of Serbia Statehood Day, the Serbian Embassy held Serbian Film Week at the cinema "Fourth Estate" in Rabat, from 5-10 February 2012. Six more recent feature films were screened. The event drew the attention of the Moroccan media and audiences. It was co-hosted by the Serbian Film Centre, Office of the Mayor of Rabat, Moroccan Film Centre and the Rabat International Festival of Culture and Art, and supported by the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Republic of Serbia granted status of associate member of EUNIC Bratislava |

Bratislava, January 2012 - At the beginning of 2012, Serbia received an associate member status with EUNIC Bratislava (the network of European Union cultural relations institutes), thus opening up prospects for presenting Serbian culture as part of European heritage, and for participation at a number of cultural events that EUNIC stages throughout the year in the Slovak Republic. So far, Serbia has been presented at events such as the Linguistic Cafe (February and June), Literature Night 2012 (May), concert held on EU Day (May) and the Euro Film Club (August).
