CONSULAR CONSULTATIONS HELD BETWEEN THE MINISTRIES OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE REPUBLIC OF SERBIA AND THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA

Aca Jovanovic with Guo SchaochunWith a view to examining the most important aspects of their consular cooperation, consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia and the People's Republic of China were held in Beijing, on 9 May 2018. The Delegation of the Republic of Serbia was headed by Ambassador Aca Jovanovic, Acting Assistant Minister for Consular Affairs, while the Delegation of the People's Republic of China was headed by the Director General of Consular Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China Guo Schaochun.

Both sides expressed their expectations that the consular relations will continue to follow and assist the trend in the development of political and economic cooperation.

They also noted that the Agreement on Visa Exemption for the citizens of the two countries holding ordinary passports, which entered into force on 15 January 2017, is one more confirmation of the strategic relations between the Republic of Serbia and the People's Republic of China, creating an opportunity for the further promotion of all forms of the past cooperation and the development of new ones.

The hosts organized a visit to the city of Tianjin on 10 May 2018, where the Delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia had a meeting with Deputy Mayor Zhao Haishan.

The practice of alternating the venue of consular consultations on an annual level was re-asserted with a view to further promotion of cooperation and regular exchange of experience in the consular area, in particular with regard to the consular protection for the citizens in urgent cases and emergencies, modernization of work and improved quality of consular protection and services. Both sides agreed to hold next consular consultations in Belgrade, in 2019.

The consular consultations were meaningful and evolved in the spirit of friendly relations. The mutual readiness for further promotion of the consular cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and the People's Republic of China was expressed.
