Returning visitors from the affected areas in West Africa - Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leona and Nigeria, should monitor their health for three weeks (21 days). In case of sudden onset of fever, weakness, muscle pain, headache, sore throat followed by vomiting, diarrhea, rash or bleeding within three weeks after return, they should seek rapid medical attention and mention their recent travel, to the attending physician.
Information for travelers regarding Ebola Virus Disease (EVD)
- Ebola Virus Disease is rare
- Symptoms include fever, weakness, muscle pain, headache and sore throat. This is followed by vomiting, diarrhea, rash, and in some cases, bleeding
- It is transmitted through direct contact with blood or other bodily fluids from infected persons or wild animals, or through exposure to objects that have been con1жlШlated with infected secretions
- There is no specific vaccine or treatment for Ebola Virus Disease
- The following preventive measures should eliminate the risk of getting infected:
- Avoid all contact with blood and other bodily fluids of infected people or animals o Do not handle items that may have come in contact with an infected person's blood or other bodily fluids
- Avoid any form of close contact with wild animals, including monkeys, forest antelopes, rodents and bats, both alive and dead, and consumption of any type of "bushmeat"
- Avoid habitats which might be populated by bats such as caves, isolated shelters or mining sites
- Avoid having unprotected sexual intercourse
- Practice careful hand and personal hygiene
