First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic received a call from U.S. Ambassador to Serbia Anthony Godfrey.

In the talks, both sides expressed their readiness to continue cooperation in areas of mutual interest, aimed at strengthening relations between the two countries in the period following the maintenance of the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic under control. In that context, the U.S. Ambassador commended the way the Serbian government tackled the epidemic and the resulting established cooperation.

Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed disappointment with the recent move made by Pristina concerning the import of Serbian goods and conditions set in this regard, i.e. the introduction of reciprocity measures. He underscored that such decisions were extremely harmful, violating all previously made agreements and threatening the prospects of the dialogue continuing, recalling that even Ambassador Richard Grenell had previously called on Pristina to lift the unilaterally imposed tariffs and reciprocity measures.

Ambassador Godfrey stated that he shared the disappointment with the move made by Pristina and expressed hope that all restrictions would be lifted and the dialogue would resume soon. With regard to regional issues, the Ambassador stated that he believed that Serbia and Montenegro would resolve all issues through dialogue, including the issue concerning the opening of its border for all citizens.

In view of the upcoming elections in Serbia, the U.S. Ambassador noted again that it was important for all political factors in the country to participate in the elections and as such contribute to making the Parliament a place where all political voices can be heard.
