During his stay in Thessaloniki where he participated in a Ministerial Meeting hosted by Foreign Minister of the Hellenic Republic Nikos Dendias, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic visited the Hilandar House where he met with clergy from the Hilandar Monastery.

On this occasion he was awarded a Hilandar Honour of Merit by Archimandrite Metodije and the Hilandar fraternity for his good deeds and assistance in the reconstruction of the Monastery, as well as for his achievements in the protection and defence of national interests.

Expressing his gratitude for the honour, Minister Dacic underlined both his personal and readiness of the Serbian Government to offer assistance and support to Hilandar Monastery whenever needed, given that this was one of the greatest holy sites not only for Serbia but globally as well.

After that, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic also visited Mount Athos house, the administrative seat of all Mount Athos monasteries, where he met with the Mayor of Thessaloniki Konstantinos Zervas.

The Minister and the Mayor agreed that Serbia and Greece were two brotherly and friendly countries, and on the need to foster their excellent relations further.

Minister Dacic brought his stay in Thessaloniki to an end by paying a visit to Serbian military cemetery Zeitenlik where he laid a wreath and once again paid his respects to the memory of Serbian soldiers who were killed in the breakthrough on the Salonika Front.

At the cemetery, the Minister was welcomed by the famous Djordje Mihailovic, a 90-year-old man who has been taking care of the Serbian heroes' graves, as did his father Djuro and grandfather Savo before him.
Uncle Djordje informed Minister Dacic about the unfortunate situation that, even though he was of Serbian origin with his family taking care of the military cemetery for decades, he had never visited Serbia nor was he holder of Serbian citizenship and passport.

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic promised that the Ministry would facilitate him being granted Serbian citizenship and issued a passport in an expedited procedure.
