High level of understanding between Serbia and Cambodia

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic received today a courtesy call from the Permanent State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia Ouch Borith who is on a visit to Belgrade on the occasion of the third round of bilateral political consultations held between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Serbia and Cambodia.

Minister Dacic welcomed the decision taken by the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia to reopen the Embassy in Belgrade, in May 2019, which was a significant step towards improving overall relations, especially in the development of economic, parliamentary, educational, scientific, cultural and sports cooperation. He voiced hope that, through our continued and joint efforts we would contribute to the further development of the traditionally friendly relations between Serbia and Cambodia.

Minister Dacic emphasized that there was a high level of understanding between Serbia and Cambodia on key issues for the two countries, and underlined, in particular, the gratitude for Cambodia's principled and unequivocal position regarding the non-recognition of the unilateral declaration of independence of so-called Kosovo as well as for its continued support to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia.

The two collocutors reasserted mutual readiness to further strengthen the high-level dialogue between the two countries. Minister Dacic expressed hope that Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn would visit Serbia in the coming period.

Permanent State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ouch Borith thanked Minister Dacic for receiving him and pointed out that opening of the Cambodian Embassy in Belgrade was another evidence of their interest in further strengthening the traditionally friendly relations with Serbia. He expressed his belief that high-level visits would take place in the period ahead, being the key prerequisite for strengthening the political and economic relations between our two countries. State Secretary Borith offered his unequivocal confirmation of the firm stance of Cambodia concerning the non-recognition of the unilateral declaration of independence of so-called Kosovo, as well as the assurances that their position would remain unchanged.
