Acting Consul of the Republic of Serbia in Thessaloniki Dragana Glisic visited yesterday the parts of the Halkidiki peninsula affected by the storm which struck Greece, upon order of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic.

In Neos Marmaras, the town most severely hit by the storm in that part of Greece, the Serbian Consul met a representative of Sabra Travel Agency who said that the situation was stable and that electricity and water were supplied again. The Agency's representative underlined that it was pure luck no one had been killed, since that part of Greece had been hit by a wind of hurricane force.

In Nea Moudania, the Consul visited a health-care facility to make sure that no Serbian citizens were hospitalized there. Consul Glisic met with Head of Civil Protection in charge of the Kassandra peninsula Ch. Steriadis who confirmed the situation was stable, as well as that 95% of the peninsula had power supply and water. He stressed that similar storms were not forecast in the days to come, but that the state of emergency enforced on 10 June would last between 15 and 20 days, not because there was an imminent threat to human lives, but rather because of compensation claims for real estate, vehicles, roads and damaged infrastructure.

Citizens mostly complained about damaged cars. An initial step in such a case is to contact the insurance company who will then send an expert to appraise the damage done to vehicle. The second step is to obtain a damage certificate at the Fire Department between Kassandra and Afitos (Kasandria, 63077 Halkidiki, Tel: 0030 237 40 22 19).
Consul Dragana Glisic talked to the head of the health facility treating the injured Serbian girl, who assured her that her condition was stable.
