First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic had talks with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, in the margins of the UNSC meeting devoted to his Report on UNMIK.

Secretary-General Guterres expressed concern over the situation in Kosovo after the recent crackdown by Kosovo police forces in the north of the Province and the incident in which UNMIK staff members were arrested. He pointed out that UNMIK was operating in complex circumstances and that it was continuously exposed to provocations with the aim of making its operations come to an end.

Minister Dacic underlined that Serbia remained committed to negotiations and finding a solution by peaceful means. He pointed out that the Serb population in Kosovo and Metohija was constantly exposed to provocations and intimidation and that, in that context, he warned of the possibility of further incidents in the north of the province, and called on the Security Council to take this warning seriously and undertake preventive measures to stop further escalation on the ground.
