Minister Dačić talked to United Nations Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs

UNFirst Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ivica Dačić, met today with the UN Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs, Miroslav Jenča.

On this occasion, the collocutors exchanged their positions on current political developments in the region and emphasized the importance of preserving peace and stability and of further reform processes. The UN representative stressed in particular the importance of the role played by the Republic of Serbia in the region, thankful for the contribution the Republic of Serbia made through the participation of its personnel in UN peace-keeping missions around the world, and for the active engagement of Serbia in other important fields of activity of the United Nations.

Stressing the importance the United Nations has for the Republic of Serbia in the protection of territorial integrity and sovereignty, Minister Dačić underlined the necessity of preserving the dynamics and format of UN Security Council meetings on UNMIK, as well as of preserving UNMIK as a guarantee of status neutrality, without downsizing or change of its mandate. He reiterated that Serbia was committed to finding a compromise and sustainable solution for the Kosovo issue through dialogue led under the auspices of the EU. He also stressed the importance of continuing cooperation and dialogue with the United Nations on all issues of importance for the region in the upcoming period.
