altSerbian Ambassador to the United States Marko Djuric made a formal call on His Grace Bishop Irinej of Eastern America, at the Episcopal Residence near New York City.

On this occasion, the Ambassador and the Bishop exchanged ideas on cooperation between the Serbian diplomatic mission and the Serbian Orthodox Dioceses in the USA, as well as customary gifts as signs of mutual respect and forthcoming cooperation, reads the statement on the website of the Serbian Orthodox Church Diocese of Eastern America.

The press release of the Diocese of Eastern America also notes that two significant anniversaries stood out in this year which marks an important milestone for the United States of America and Serbia.

"Notably, we celebrate the 140th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries - in 1881 our two countries were already exchanging envoys, trading goods, and signing significant international treaties, a number of which are still in place today", reads the statement by the Serbian Orthodox Church.

The Diocese of Eastern America further informs that they "take great pride in the fact that during both World Wars, relations between Serbia and the United States remained steadfast. As Allies, we fought for freedom and values held in common by our two nations".

Many freedom-loving Serbs have made their home in the United States, reads further the Serbian Orthodox Church statement, adding that "American Serbs have positively impacted upon and enriched the history of their new Homeland, while bearing their Fatherland in their hearts".

The second important anniversary marked this year is the centenary of the establishment of the first Serbian Orthodox Diocese in the USA and Canada, the Diocese of Eastern America said in its statement.
