Serbian Statehood Day celebrated worldwide

altOn 15 February, cultural events and activities held at Serbian diplomatic and consular missions worldwide, attended by foreign officials and prominent public figures, were organized to mark the National Day of Serbia.
 
Niagara Falls were illuminated in the colors of the Serbian flag at the main celebration marking the National Day of Serbia which was held at the Nikola Tesla Square in Niagara on 15 February.
 
The Brussels tourist attraction Manneken Pis was dressed in the Serbian national costume at a ceremony during which colleagues from the Embassy served bannock (pogača) to the guests.

Minister of State for Home Affairs Kishan Reddy was a guest of honor at the garden reception of the Serbian Embassy in New Delhi. The reception was attended by a large number of Indian officials, MPs of the Upper and Lower House, prominent figures in the realm of art, culture and sports, and Serbian citizens residing in India.

Albanian President Ilir Meta was the chief guest at the reception at the Tirana International Hotel along with his with his close associates. Former President Alfred Moisiu was also present and numerous Albanian press releases covered the event.

Minister of Antiquities and Tourism Khaled al-Anany was a guest of honor at the reception which our colleagues from the Embassy in Egypt organized at Marriott Hotel on 25 February.

In Minsk, Belarus Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko discussed the historic friendship, cultural and spiritual closeness of our two brotherly nations, as was reported by the Belarusian Telegraph Agency (BeIta).

On 23 February, the Serbian Embassy in Algiers held a formal reception at Sofitel Algiers Hamma Garden Hotel which was attended by high-level government officials, Minister of National Solidarity, the Family and Status of Women Kaoutar Kikou and Minister of Water Resources Arezki Baraki. In addition to local products, guests could try Serbian cuisine and beverages, and watch beautiful imagery of Serbia, shot by the Tourist Organization of Serbia, which was projected on a big screen.

At the historic building of the Serbian Embassy in Ankara – Turkey's protected tangible heritage, the National Day Reception was held for 250 invitees, including the Minister for Youth and Sports Mehmet Kasapoglu, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Faruk Kaymakci and Commander of the Turkish Naval Forces Admiral Adnan Ozbal with the members of the General Staff. The press releases were issued in the Diplomatic Observer and Haber Lutfen.

As part of the National Day celebration, the Serbian Embassy in Budapest organized a play "Jovan Ducic – The Last Poem" for the Serbian community abroad at the SPC Tekelianum, in addition to the diplomatic corps reception.

A cocktail party was held for the Serbian community abroad, primarily residing in Brasilia, at the Serbian Embassy in Brazil on 20 February. The reception provided an opportunity to connect and preserve Serbian values and tradition.

The Serbian Embassy in Mexico prepared a music program featuring pianist Gerardo Payan who played some of the most beautiful Serbian songs on the piano. Guests were served Serbian traditional dishes.

Special features on Serbia, including a commentary by Ambassador Nenad Glisic, were issued in prominent Japanese newspapers in English - Japanese Times and Japanese News.

The Serbian Embassy in Norway celebrated the National Day of Serbia with a concert at the Oslo Philharmonic. The performance of the Balkan Nord Choir, consisting of Serbian opera singers and academic musicians, was held.

On the occasion of the National Day of Serbia, a reception and concert was held at the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral in Rijeka. The performance of the principal opera singer at the National Theater in Belgrade mezzosoprano Natasa Jovic Trivic was accompanied by pianist Igor Vlajnic and conductor at the Croatian National Theater Ivan Pl. Zajec.

At the National Day Reception, Serbian Ambassador to Iran Dragan Todorovic gave an interview for Iran Press discussing the overall good cooperation between the two countries, especially with regards to parliamentary diplomacy.

On the occasion of the National Day of Serbia, the Spanish magazine Diplomat published an interview with Ambassador Katarina Lalic explaining the reason why Serbs celebrate the Presentation of the Lord (Sretenje) and discussing Serbia's foreign policy priorities.
