altThe Embassy of Serbia co-hosted an event with the Office of the Defense Attaché on 31 March at the Embassy to commemorate the 20th anniversary of NATO aggression against the FR of Yugoslavia.

The event, attended by Serbian citizens working in Algeria observed a minute of silence followed by the Ambassador's statement who spoke about civilian casualties of NATO aggression and destruction of infrastructure and civilian structures like hospitals, schools, nurseries, churches, etc.

The Ambassador pointed out that NATO even considered media outlets as legitimate targets, and that the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade was also bombed. He explained how the aggression unfolded and that one of its consequences was a large number of refugees and internally displaced persons. He particularly pointed to the pretext of this illegitimate bombing campaign carried out without UN Security Council authorization contrary to international law and provisions of the Charter of the United Nations. He recalled that a large number of countries, including Algeria, opposed the attack against a sovereign country.

The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Serbia made a documentary on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of NATO aggression which was screened at the event along with documentary pieces on the consequences of the bombing.

Professor at the Department for Slavonic Languages of Algiers University Mohamed Walid Grine took the floor and said that NATO bombing against civilian targets was no different from terrorist attacks carried out throughout the world.

Retired Ambassador Nourredine Djoudi said that bombing of the FRY was prepared well in advance and that it represented a final chapter of the plan espoused by the West to dismember the former SFRY.

A publicist Sid Ali Hattabi emphasized that Algeria also had faced many outside threats aimed at undermining its sovereignty and territorial integrity, adding that its refusal to recognize the independence of Kosovo was not surprising.
