Washington D.C.: Serbia at the Festival of Francophonie

altThe Embassies of Serbia and of Bosnia and Herzegovina to Washington D.C. organized a book night with author Vladimir Pistalo as part of "Francophonie DC" festival. The event entitled "Millennium in Belgrade" after the book of the same name, was held on 26 March in the Alliance Française de Washington DC. The book was short-listed for the prestigious annual reward "Femina" for the best translated novel in French in 2018.

Serbian Ambassador Djerdj Matkovic, Charge d'affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina Milenko Misic and the Alliance Director Sarah Diligenti spoke at the book launch.

Following the presentation and excerpts read from "Millennium in Belgrade" book there was a discussion on other books of the same author – "Tesla, a portrait with masks" and "The sun of this day: a letter to Andric".

The guests at the event included members of the diplomatic corps in Washington D.C., State Department, education institutions and Serbian diaspora.
During the Festival of Francophonie culture, our Embassy also organized a concert of classical music, "The Night of Love" on 28 March in the concert hall of the Alliance Française.

An opera diva Jadranka Jovanovic, Biljana Soldo (soprano) and Milica Sekulic (piano) performed recitals. An hour-long program featured solos and duets of French, Serbian and Italian love arias to the accompaniment of a piano artist, taking the audience on a journey spanning different ages, from romanticism, impressionism and expressionism to the modern times and contemporary musical works. Before the concert, Serbian Ambassador Djerdj Matkovic welcomed the audience and formally opened the event.

"Festival de Francophonie DC" is held on a regular basis in Washington D.C. every year in March. This year, 75 states presented their countries and artistic, academic and historical ties with French language and the francophone culture.
