altIn the context of the presentation of the novel "Swastika above Serbia" by Radomir Baturan, a literary evening was held on 6 December at the Consulate General of Serbia in Toronto in cooperation with the club of Serbian intellectuals magazine "People Talk". The novel is dedicated to a historical personality, the pilot of the Royal Yugoslav Army, Djordje Stojanovic, who shot down three enemy fighter planes in the twelve-day war between the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and Nazi Germany.

Consul General Vasilije Petkovic underlined that the contribution made by the territorially small but courageous, hearty and proud Serbia in both World Wars was substantial, saying that memory of the war heroes should be passed on to the future generations.

"The novel 'Swastika above Serbia' depicts the life of an ordinary Serbian Army pilot, his moral and personal decline in the face of historical difficulties, as well as his rise which occurs when he realizes that maybe for the last time, before his life ends, he can serve his country at the front-line of its defence," said Mr. Petkovic.

The author of the novel Radomir Baturan, writer and editor Dusica Ivanovic, professor of world literature Djordjije Mucibabic and professor of Russian literature Nikola Gligorijevic took part in the discussion. Aleksandar Bojicic performed several pieces by Serbian authors on the guitar.
