altThe Anthology entitled "Many Faces of 1918: fall, new beginning, liberation, a respite in the European civil war", a project which gathered 17 countries working on its realization over the last two years, was presented on 20 November at the Institut Pierre Werner in Luxembourg. Serbia was represented by writer Aleksandar Gatalica and an excerpt from his novel "The Great War".

He spoke about his inspiration for the novel "The Great War" and the excerpt called "The time when even clocks could kill" which is included in the anthology, stressing that in the Great War Serbia lost a third of its total population. He briefed the audience on other authors from Serbia who wrote about the Great War in their works. He suggested that, based on the national databases, a unique database be created comprising all victims of WWI.

The event, also attended by Henri, Grand Duke of Luxembourg, opened with the introductory remarks by Austrian Ambassador to Luxembourg Gregor Schusterschitz, one of the initiators along with the Ministry of Culture of Luxembourg and Luxembourg National Literature Centre. In his opening statement, Ambassador Schusterschitz stressed that the idea had been to portray the year of 1918 from different points of view, in an artistic way, without any intention to interpret this year from a historical point of view, but instead to reflect different views of different peoples through literary and poetic form.

Some of the authors from 17 countries wrote about the falls of empires, others about the creation of new countries, others yet about the frustration remaining after the civil war, some about the rights of women or about the impossibility to govern states, or about the major losses of human lives. The anthology was not created for commercial purposes, participating countries were given 40 copies each, around 200 copies have been distributed to schools, libraries and cultural institutions of Luxembourg, and the electronic version will be available free-of-charge.

The promotion was attended by Ambassador Marina Jovicevic on behalf of the Serbian Embassy, minister-counsellor Irena Banovcanin, Consul Vesna Lalic, representatives from the Serbian Mission to NATO, Vojvodina European Office, Serbian Cultural Centre in Luxembourg, and the representatives of Serbian diaspora in Luxembourg.
