altOn the occasion of the hundredth birth of Nelson Mandela, the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in the Republic of South Africa organized a ceremony honouring the first democratically elected President of South Africa. The ceremony was held at the Nelson Mandela Foundation in Johannesburg, on 1 October 2018.

Following the introductory remarks by Serbian Ambassador Bozin Nikolic, many renowned speakers from the diplomatic corps and Mandela's friend and lawyer George Bizos addressed those present.

Ambassador Nikolic presented Letters of Acknowledgement and the winning trophy of the Diplomatic Basketball Tournament to Ebrahim Edris, a representative from the Department of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa (DIRCO), and a special Letter of Acknowledgement to Sello Hatang, the Chief Executive of the Nelson Mandela Foundation. The Embassy of Serbia organized a basketball tournament in July 2018, in Mandela's honour.

The guests attended a cocktail reception with Serbian-style nibbles, while attending an art programme featuring the performance of Amatsheketshe Entertainment, a local art group from Midrand.
