Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Hungary Rade Drobac wrote an article for the
Diplomat Magazine, on the occasion of the 90th anniversary conference of the Danube Commission in Belgrade, and 70 years since the adoption of the still effective Convention Regarding the Regime of Navigation on the Danube, signed in Belgrade.
Ambassador Drobac, who is Serbia's Permanent Representative to the Danube Commission, recalled the importance of the 1948 Belgrade Convention, which introduced free navigation on the Danube for citizens, merchant ships and goods originating from all countries. Ambassador Drobac also wrote that the preservation of the Danube Commission, as one of the oldest international organizations, should go hand in hand with the changes in political circumstances, while respecting the need of the European peoples to foster closer cooperation in areas of economy, energy, environmental protection, culture and tourism.
