altA brass memorial plaque testifying to the alliance between Serbia and Canada in the First World War was put up at the Ottawa Town Hall on 26 July 2018, on the initiative of the Serbian Embassy in Canada.

The plaque, which was unveiled at the central foyer of the City Hall, carries the engraved names of the first and the last victims of the Great War – Dusan Djonovic (16), a Serb, and George Lawrence Price (26), a Canadian.

The Mayor of Ottawa Jim Watson and Ambassador of Serbia to Canada Mihailo Papazoglu officially unveiled the commemorative plaque in the presence of the Global Affairs Canada representatives, members of the diplomatic corps and members of Serbian associations.

alt

Ambassador Papazoglu spoke about the heroic contribution that the Serbian people had made to the victory of the Allies, including Canada.

This is the first memorial plaque in Ottawa commemorating alliance with another country; hence the unveiling of this monument has a more lasting, historic dimension.
