Aquileia: A Display of Exhibits on Serbian cultural heritage opened

altAn exhibition "Treasure and emperors - splendor of the Roman Serbia", mounted in Aquileia, at Palazzo Meizlik, from 10 March to 3 June, was presented at a press conference in the Italian Ministry of Culture.

The Exhibition, hosted by the National Museum of Serbia in cooperation with the Aquileia Foundation, displayed exceptional exhibits of Serbian cultural heritage, including the most important achievements in art and craftsmanship from the times when the territory of the present-day Serbia was an integral part of the Roman Empire. The Exhibition comprises 60 exhibits from 8 museums of Serbia and one exhibit from a private collection.

The Exhibition covers the period from the 1st to 6th centuries when the city of Aquileia was one of the largest and richest cities of the Empire on the soil of today's Italy.

Serbian Ambassador Goran Aleksic noted that the Exhibition was an undertaking of huge significance for cultural institutions of both Serbia and Italy and for all art lovers. He invited all those who would find it interesting to visit the archeological sites and museums in Serbia in order to become better acquainted with rich heritage of Serbia.

Ms. Debora Serracchiani, President of the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, said that the Exhibition was part of an ambitious project through which art and culture build new bridges for the strengthening of relations.

"Profoundness of common historical and cultural roots that the Exhibition shows will contribute to the strengthening of the relations between Serbia and Italy, particularly with the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia", she said.

On the occasion of the opening the Exhibition "Treasure and Emperors - splendor of the Roman Serbia", a reception was held at Palazzo Meizlik at which the art lovers were addressed by Ambassador Aleksic and Serbian Assistant Minister of Culture Danijela Vanusic.
