Brasilia: An exhibition devoted to Ivo Andric opened to mark 80 years of diplomatic relations

altAt Buriti Palace, headquarters of the Buriti Federal District Government and one of the most prestigious exhibition venues in the capital Brasilia, Serbian Ambassador to Brazil Veljko Lazic and first lady of the Federal District Marcia Rollemberg opened a Belgrade City Museum's exhibition entitled ""Ivo Andric: a Writer and/or a Diplomat", on the occasion of marking the Serbian Statehood Day and the 80th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with Brazil.

At the opening, Brazilian officials addressed representatives of Embassies and international organizations, namely the Brazilian MFA's Under Secretary General for Multilateral Political Affairs, Europe and North America Simas Magalhaes, Federal District Culture Secretary Gustavo Pacheco and Federal District Governor's Chief of Staff Alden Mangueira.

The cocktail reception was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps and international organizations from all continents and was widely reported on in the media. Ambassador Lazic was interviewed by two leading diplomatic media outlets – The Guide and Embassy Brasilia. Brasilia Agency, Embassy Brasilia, Brasilia in Foco and Alo, all reporting about the observance of the Serbian National Day and the exhibition, focusing on the life and work of our diplomat and Nobel Prize Laureate. Excerpts from the formal ceremony speeches by the Federal District first lady Marcia Rollemberg and Ambassador Veljko Lazic were also relayed.

Ms. Rollemberg conveyed that she was pleased with the displayed exhibits in Brasilia, which would, as she noted, enrich the culture of its citizens, at the same time contributing to the further development of Serbia-Brazil relations. "I am honoured that this selection is part of the cultural program in Brasilia", emphasized the first lady.

Ambassador Lazic underlined that the selection had been been on display in most European capitals and that this was its debut beyond the borders of Europe, i.e., in the territory of Latin America.
