FOTO london_3062016The Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in London and the Serbian Council of Great Britain, in cooperation with the Serbian City Club from London, marked Vidovdan (St. Vitus Day) in Britain's Parliament for the first time after one hundred years.

In the United Kingdom, St. Vitus Day was first observed in 1916 as “Kosovo Day”, when many school and public manifestations were organized in solidarity with the Serbian allies. On 28 June 2016, a hundred years later, the event organised on the occasion of St. Vitus Day and “Kosovo Day” in the British Parliament was hosted by Stuart Andrew MP, Vice-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Serbia. A suitable programme was arranged by Ms Jenny Black, a retired NHS worker from Southampton, who read a speech about this great day, actress Marija Pavlovic Allport, who recited a few Serbian verses from World War I, and Zivorad Nikolic, an accordion player for the “She-Koyokh” band, who played some of the most familiar Serbian songs from the Great War.
