Closing Ceremony of the "Month of Serbian Culture in Hungary" Event

mesec-srpske-kultureThe event "Month of Serbian Culture in Hungary", organized by the Cultural and Documentation Centre (CDC) of the Hungarian Serbs for the fourth consecutive year, under the auspices of the Self-Government of Hungarian Serbs, was officially closed yesterday, 14 October, in the Embassy premises. Ambassador R. Drobac and Director of the CDC M. Djuric addressed the audience during the closing ceremony. On the Hungarian side, A. Paulik, Head of the Main Department for Minorities in the Ministry of Human Resources, read a welcome message from G. Holvenyi, Minister of State of the Ministry.

Culture and art programme was organized at the Embassy on the occasion, with the performance of the "Sensartika" quartet from Belgrade and an exhibition of photographs of Novak Djokovic by J. Mirceski.

The event at the Embassy was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, the Serbian community and the Church in Hungary, Serbian media (staff of the programme in the Serbian language of the Hungarian state television, the Serbian Weekly Newspaper), as well as representatives of the Serbian Armed Forces.

The event was opened on 13 September with a theatre performance of "Seobe" (Exodus) by Knjazevsko-srpski teatar from Kragujevac on stage of the National Dance Theatre in Budapest.

During this one-month event, different aspects of the Serbian culture, tradition and contemporary creative works were presented. Programmes were held across Hungary, Budapest, Pecs, Szentendre, Battonya, Bate, Hercegszanto, Pomaz, Szeged, Kecskemet, Lorev, Kalaz.

This year's event marked significant anniversaries: bicentenary of the performance of the first Serbian civic show in Hungary by Joakim Vujic, 120th anniversary of the birth of Milos Crnjanski, 20the anniversary of the death of Desanka Maksimovic and 70th anniversary of the death of Jovan Ducic.

The "Month of Serbian culture" event is the most important cultural event of the Serbs in Hungary, which confirms that the Serbian community is very active and well-organized in terms of culture.
