Political relations:
In 2017, through the project „Make a Wish" the Sovereign Order of Malta carried out several humanitarian activities in Serbia, helping children with rare disease in cooperation with the Serbian Ministry of Helath, and supporting Shelter for Children in Belgrade and Center in Sremčica by providing food supplies.
Visits:
- Grand Hospitaller of the Sovereign Order of Malta, Prince Dominique de La Rochefoucauld-Montbel paid an official visit in Belgrade on December 8, 2016 when he met with the Serbian Ministers of Health and Labour, Zlatibor Lončar and Aleksanadar Vulin.
- Former President B. Tadic visited SMOM in October 2006.
The charity dinner held in Monaco, on 19 June 2015, raised EUR 100 thousand for the humanitarian project "Make a Wish", aimed at primary school students from the flooded areas. The formal ceremony of delivering gifts to the children from flooded areas was organized on 13 October 2015.
Relations have been good, with no outstanding issues. When it comes to humanitarian initiatives undertaken in Serbia, the Sovereign Military Order of Malta took part in the humanitarian assistance project for the disabled children in Priboj and the organ transplantation training project. The Doctor's Tower project supports the reconstruction of facilities intended for children suffering from cancer, and coming from the interior of the country. The Sovereign Military Order of Malta has donated EUR 100 thousand for the implementation of the project. Ambassador of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta to the Republic of Serbia with residence in Belgrade, Alberto di Luca, presented his Letters of Credence on 18 October 2010. The newly-appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Holy See, Mirko Jelic, with residence at the Holy See, presented his Credentials to the Grand Master of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, Fra' Matthew Festing, on 10 April 2013.
Patriarch Irinej decorated Ambassador Di Luca with the Order of Emperor Constantine.
A Friendship Group with the Sovereign Military Order of Malta was created in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, in January 2013. Prof. Dr. Vladimir Marinkovic is the Chair of the Group.
The Agreement on Cooperation in humanitarian aid delivery to Serbia was signed on 11 December 2013.
The Sovereign Military Order of Malta has not recognized the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo and Metohija.
