Visits

Developed bilateral relations, based on common history and traditionally close ties between the two peoples, including Serbia's policy focused on the development of friendly relations and its principled positioning in the context of good-neighbourliness, is being further promoted in regular contacts at all levels, through both bilateral visits and officials' meetings on the fringes of international and regional forums, in the framework of which the cooperation is developed particularly well. Significant impetus to the development of relations was given by the exchange of top-level visits, namely the visit by the President of R. Serbia to R. Macedonia on 16 September 2016 on the occasion of commemoration of the Battle of Kaymakchalan centenary, as well as the visit by the President of R. Macedonia to R. Serbia on 28-30 October 2016. The Prime Minister of R. Macedonia was on an official visit to R. Serbia on 20-21 November 2017, when it was agreed to hold the third joint session of the two Governments in February/March 2018.

Economic relations:

Economic cooperation is developed in all areas and the two countries are very important economic partners to each other. According to the information of the National Bank of Serbia, Serbian investments in R. Macedonia amounted to EUR 675 million between 1997 and 2015, and the total net investments made by Macedonian residents in R. Serbia amounted to EUR 28.7 million for the 2010-2016 period. The trade in good has recorded a constant upward trend. According to the Republic of Serbia Statistical Office data, in the first 10 months of 2017 the volume of trade amounted to EUR 622.9 million, out of which Serbian exports amounted to EUR 452.3 million, while imports from Macedonia reached EUR 170.6 million.

In addition to the joint sessions of the two Governments, as the key forum for the promotion of economic cooperation, further contribution is also made by the good inter-chamber relations. The first business forum co-organized by the two chambers was held in October 2016, in Serbia, with participation of 61 Serbian and 22 Macedonian companies, and the second business forum in Skopje was held in February 2017 and included participation of 50 companies from Serbia and 60 from Macedonia.

The priorities of overall cooperation, underlined also on the last so far held and overall second joint session between the two Governments, which took place in Skopje in 2015, include the finalization of Corridor 10, construction of gas interconnector Vranje-Kumanovo, construction of (Budapest)-Belgrade-Skopje railway, and the building of Nis-Stip power line which had been finished and inaugurated in the meantime, in 2016.
