Minister Dacic has talks with President of the UN International Residual Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals

Ivica Dacic and Judge Theodor MeronFirst Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic had talks today with President of the Residual Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals, Judge Theodor Meron, who is on an official visit to Belgrade, from 19-20 November.

The talks focused on Serbia's further cooperation with the Mechanism, the Mechanism's assistance to the national jurisdiction in Serbia in war crime cases, establishment of information offices about the Hague Tribunal in Serbia and in other countries of the region, as well as on the efforts concerning the accountability for war crimes at the national level and the situation of certain Serbian nationals currently serving prison sentences.

As part of his farewell visit to the countries of the region prior to bringing his mandate to an end on 19 January 2019, it is planned that Judge Meron, after Serbia, pays a visit to Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In January 2019, the office of President of the Mechanism will be assumed by Judge Carmelo Agius, who previously served as the last President of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia which closed down on 31 December 2017.

The President of the Residual Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals was accompanied by his Chef de Cabinet Gabrielle McIntyre and the Mechanism Spokesperson Helena Eggleston.

In addition to First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic, the Serbian delegation included Mr Veljko Odalovic, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and President of the Commission on Missing Persons, Ambassador Dr Slavoljub Caric, Head of the MFA International Legal Affairs Department and Ms Jasmina Pekmezovic, First Counsellor.
