Bilateral consultations on security challenges held between Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia and the Russian Federation |

On 5 July 2018, a round of bilateral consultations on issues related to security challenges and threats was held in Moscow between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. The delegation of the Serbian Foreign Ministry was headed by Acting Assistant Foreign Minister for security policy Ambassador Branimir Filipovic, while the Russian delegation was led by Ambassador Ilya Rogachev, Director of the Department for New Challenges and Threats.
In the context of the bilateral consultations, Ambassador Filipovic was also received by the RF Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Syromolotov. The two sides exchanged views on terrorism as a global, indivisible threat calling for a high level of international cooperation on issues such as financing and support of terrorism and terrorist organizations, phenomenon of foreign terrorist fighters, as well as on combating the spread of terrorist ideologies and radicalization. In the talks, they also discussed the situation in the Balkans and South-East Europe, focusing on the situation in Kosovo and Metohija in particular, in the context of prevention and elimination of security threats posed by terrorism. At the same time, the officials also discussed the bilateral cooperation in this field and prospects for its further promotion, emphasizing the mutual support and understanding on issues being considered in international organizations and fora, and stressing the key role played by the United Nations in the efforts to preserve lasting peace and stability around the world and to face security challenges. Both sides noted that the consultations in this format and field, as well as consultations between the two Foreign Ministries in other formats dealing with different topics, were a demonstration of the intensity of contacts between the two Ministries, while further promoting an intensified political dialogue existing between Serbia and the Russian Federation. |
