First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic had a bilateral meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Abdyldaev Erlan Bekeshovich, in the margins of the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Ministers pointed to the importance of friendly and traditionally good relations between the two countries. Minister Abdyldaev Erlan Bekeshovich underlined that his country's position regarding the issue of Kosovo was firm, and that it would not change, regardless of the outcome of the upcoming presidential election in the Kyrgyz Republic, saying that he would strive to realize his bilateral visit by the end of the year. Minister Dacic also talked to the new Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Achim Steiner. In the meeting, both sides noted the good cooperation existing between Serbia and UNDP. The Serbian Foreign Minister thanked UNDP for the assistance it provided to Serbia, expressing his hope that the successful cooperation with the UN Country Team in Serbia would be maintained. Mr. Steiner expressed the readiness of the UNDP to support and assist the Republic of Serbia in reaching sustainable development goals. He particularly thanked the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the support on opening the United Nations House in Belgrade. On the occasion, Minister Dacic extended an invitation to Mr. Achim Steiner to visit Serbia. First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia also met representatives of the American Jewish Committee (AJC). Both sides expressed concern about the increasingly frequent attempts at revising history, denying the Holocaust and other crimes. The interlocutors also discussed joint projects such as erecting a memorial honouring WWII victims. Moreover, they positively assessed the progress made in resolving the issue of Jewish property restitution in Serbia. In numerous high-level meetings where he participated in the context of the UN General Assembly session, the Serbian Foreign Minister had the opportunity to meet and briefly converse with many officials: CEO of the World Bank, President of Montenegro, Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Italy Angelino Alfano, of Norway Børge Brende, and of Kenya Amina Mohamed. That provided an opportunity to briefly discuss the next commitments during the session of the General Assembly, as well as the vital international and bilateral issues. |
