Tunisia: A Serbian sing and dance company on tour

tunis 08082017_2Sing and dance company and folk music band from the Centre for Preservation of Tradition and Culture of Obrenovac's Nikola Tesla Thermal Power Plant visited the Republic of Tunisia from 18 July – 8 August 2017, at the invitation of Tunisian Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Culture.

The tour featured twelve successful performances at international folk festivals held in major cities of Tunisia, namely Bizerte, Tunis, Sousse, Monastir, Gabès, Zarzis, Jendouba, El Krib, Nabeul, Mahdia, etc.

On 27 July, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Tunisia Nikola Lukic hosted, on the premises of the Embassy, a formal reception for members of the sing and dance company and of the folk band who informed the staff of Serbian Embassy about the 38-year-long efforts of many generations of the Centre's members also aimed at fostering the tradition and culture of the Serbian people.

At the initiative of the Centre's members, the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia on 29 July organized a visit to the Serbian war cemetery in Bizerte (Menzel Bourguiba), where more than three thousand Serbian soldiers killed in World War I were buried. Later in the evening, a gala concert was held in Menzel Bourguiba attended by Ambassador Lukic as well as the delegation of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tunisia, headed by Mr. Mohamed Ammar.

At the formal reception hosted by the Tunisian Ministry of Culture in honour of Serbian artists, the Head of the Ministry's Department for International Cultural Affairs and Consular Affairs, Ms.Feika Lahyani, expressed her gratitude to representatives of the Centre for visiting Tunisia and successfully presenting the Serbian tradition and culture across this friendly country.

The tour of the folk ensemble from Obrenovac was successfully realized owing to the support of both countries' Foreign Ministries, the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia to Tunisia and the Embassy of the Republic of Tunisia to Serbia.
