Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic participated today in Europa-Forum held in Wachau.
The theme of this year's forum was "A Europe Closer to Its Citizens", presenting a good opportunity to exchange views on key issues facing the continent as a whole. In his opening address, Minister Dacic emphasized that today's Europe was facing numerous challenges as well as that terrorism was currently the biggest challenge threatening to undermine not only the existing European civilization values, but also that it directly put at risk peace, stability and lives of Europeans. Minister Dacic took the opportunity to once again stress that Europe was also faced with an influx of migrants. The Minister underlined that the issue of migration was a complex one, that it was not easy to solve it and that it required a coordinated action by all European countries. The Serbian Foreign Minister pointed out at this event as well that Serbia pursued a policy of regional peace and stability. The Minister addressed Serbia's European integration and reforms that should lead to Serbia becoming an EU Member State as soon as possible. "The Republic of Serbia joining the European Union is the top priority of my country. We have opened a number of negotiating chapters, while a large number of new chapters are ready for talks to be opened on them. The Republic of Serbia is unstoppable in heading to membership of the European Union. It will do the same in the future too, regardless of our position that the whole process is unduly delayed and that it is also sometimes connected to some regional issues unjustifiably." The European Forum, beside Minister Dacic, included participation of many guests from the political arena, as well as EU Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn. |
