State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nemanja Stevanovic met today Ms. Vera El-Khoury Lacoeuilhe, Lebanese candidate for the post of Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Ms. Vera El-Khoury Lacoeuilhe presented her priorities and her vision of UNESCO's work that she was planning to translate into action, should she be elected to head this important organization.

The meeting proved an opportunity to point to the candidate for UNESCO Director-General the priorities of the Republic of Serbia in the cooperation with this organization, and to highlight, in particular, our active efforts against UNESCO's politicization. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance that Serbia attached to UNESCO activities in the area of cultural heritage protection, especially the protection of Serbian medieval monasteries in Kosovo and Metohija, inscribed on the List of World Heritage in Danger.
