First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic had talks today with Mr. Robert Singer, CEO and Executive Vice-President of the World Jewish Congress.
In the meeting attended by representatives of the Jewish community in Serbia, they discussed cooperation carried out so far and prospects of its further promotion, particularly emphasizing the issues important for the Jewish community in Serbia, efforts aimed at preventing attempts at relativizing the Holocaust and historical revisionism, as well as the potential for promoting the relations between the Republic of Serbia and Israel. Minister Dacic underlined that Serbia had taken an active part in the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), that it had undertaken major steps regarding the restitution of Jewish property, primarily through the adoption of the Law on remedying the consequences of the seizure of assets of Holocaust victims with no living legal heirs, as well as the construction of Old Fairground memorial complex. Robert Singer, the CEO and Executive Vice President of the World Jewish Congress, underlined historical and cultural ties between our two peoples, expressing gratitude to the Serbian Government for the relationship it fostered with the Jewish community. He stressed that everything the Republic of Serbia had done thus far concerning the Jewish property restitution was worthy of respect, and also that it deserved to be explicitly commended for this at the international level. |
