Improving traditionally friendly political relations and all-round bilateral cooperation

Mianmar AleksicState Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi received the Special Envoy of Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic, Acting Assistant Foreign Affairs Minister Ambassador Goran Aleksic, who handed her a letter from Prime Minister of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic, addressed to President of Myanmar Htin Kyaw.


During the meeting, they discussed the improvement of traditionally friendly political relations and all-round bilateral cooperation, particularly in economy, agriculture, education, culture and sport, including cooperation at the multilateral level. Both sides confirmed their readiness and interest in their further development.

Our gratitude was expressed for the principled position of Myanmar on not recognizing the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo, the support to the preservation of sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia and resolving the issue of Kosovo and Metohija through the Brussels dialogue. Also, the gratitude of Serbia was expressed for the opposition of Myanmar to admit the so-called Kosovo to international organizations, primarily to UNESCO.

The Serbian side gave full support to the efforts of the Government of Myanmar in the process of democratic transition in the implementation of political, socio-economic and administrative reforms, and especially in the process of national reconciliation and achieving peace in the country, for which State Counselor of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi expressed her gratitude. She stressed that she knew and highly appreciated a decades-long friendship between our countries, which is a rarity nowadays. She underlined that she would do her best for the continuation of the development of the friendly relations and cooperation between our countries.
