Chicago: An evening of newspaper cartoons art and animated film

Cikago 5520171The Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia in Chicago hosted an evening of cartoon art and animated film by Zoran Jovanovic, a renowned cartoonist and animator from Belgrade. Zoran Jovanovic was included in the Anthology of the best cartoonists and illustrators as selected by the New York Times.

The cartoons, previously awarded at international festivals, were on display on the premises of the Consulate, including "General with Crosses", which marked his professional career. Also presented during the evening were his animated films "Marxians", "Flags", "Antidogmin", "Libertas" and "Crazy Ship".

Acting Consul General Dejan Radulovic introduced the guest who then spoke about his creative process, inspiration, influence of new technologies on the development of cartoons, engagements and experiences while working and living in New York.

Mr. Jovanovic's creative achievements were presented at the festivals in Oberhausen, Montreal, Cracow, Sydney, Belgrade, Zagreb, London and Aspen.  Retrospectives of his animated films were held at the film archives at Harvard, in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa; at cultural centres of Bombay, New Delhi and the Walt Disney Studio.  His works are shown at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York.
