First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic received today the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of UNMIK, Zahir Tanin, as part of his regular visit to Belgrade prior to the upcoming UN Security Council session devoted to the work of UNMIK.

In the talks, the officials assessed the current political and security situation in Kosovo and Metohija, prospects of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue and the activity of UNMIK, to which the Republic of Serbia attached great importance.

They underlined the importance of further engagement of the Mission, undiminished in scope, in areas vital for the survival, normal and dignified life of Serbs and persons belonging to other non-Albanian communities in Kosovo and Metohija.

Minister Dacic expressed particular gratitude for the efforts made in the fulfilment of the UNMIK mandate as well as his expectation that the Mission would continue to carry out its mandate in accordance with UNSC Resolution 1244 (1999), in the coming period as well.
