Serbia – Turkey Foreign Ministries: Security Policy Consultations

Konsultacije Turska_Ankara_mart_2017The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Serbia and Turkey held bilateral consultations on security policy, at the invitation of the Turkish side, in Ankara, on 31 March 2017.

The delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia was led by Acting Assistant Minister for Security Policy Ambassador Branimir Filipovic, while the delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey was led by Ambassador Ahmet Muhtar Gün, Deputy Undersecretary for International Security.

The two sides underlined the importance of maintaining dialogue at this level, on a number of security issues of interest for both sides, and agreed on the practice of holding annual consultations on security policy matters.

Views were exchanged on European and regional security challenges, the two countries' cooperation in the area of security policy, especially when it comes to the Western Balkan region, with the joint assessment that Serbia is the key factor to peace and security in the region and the conclusion that it is only durable stability in the Western Balkans that will secure future prospects of the region as a whole.

Apart from the aforesaid, the two sides discussed the cooperation existing between the Republic of Serbia and NATO, through the PfP mechanism, as well as the issues related to European security.
