A screening of the documentary "The Promise", directed by Zeljko Mirkovic and produced by Dusan Gajic, was held on the premises of the French Embassy in Washington D.C. within the Francophonie Cultural Festival.
"The Promise", which was received exceptionally well by the audiences, follows the life of a French family having settled in Rogljevo village in eastern Serbia to start growing organic wines in a part of the country once famous for its vineyards. The Serbian Embassy had prepared and organized the event which, in addition to the film screening, included a panel discussion with the director and the producer of the film, as well as sampling of Serbian wines from the Zupa region. The guests were welcomed by a representative of the French Embassy to Washington D.C., Mr. Patrick Lachaussée and by the Serbian Ambassador, H.E. Mr. Djerdj Matkovic. Addressing the attendants, Ambassador Matkovic pointed to the traditional friendship between the two peoples, the importance and influence of French language and culture in Serbia, and also to the cooperation in the framework of the International Organization of the Francophonie. The French Embassy expressed its hope that the successful cooperation between the two diplomatic missions would continue in the future as well by co-hosting other art events. Numerous letters expressing appreciation of the cultural event received upon completion of the programme by the Serbian Embassy testify best to its success. |
