Dacic: “Statements by highest state officials are always binding”

DFirst Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic - commenting on the statement of DS Party Leader Dragan Sutanovac, qualified as grotesque his references to deals and resignations.

"Representatives of that party took everyone they could from the international community for a ride, eventually losing all trust and confidence of that community. They turned Serbia into an untrustworthy partner, not keeping its word. These comments were made in 2012 by all international actors - from Angela Merkel, Catherine Ashton, Hillary Clinton to French and Russian leaders. Serbia was done a lot of harm, as a result.

Unlike Serbia in those days, today's Serbia is a serious and responsible partner, delivering on its promises, while asking others to stick to their agreements too. Why doesn't Sutanovac ask Boris Tadic, Borko Stefanovic or Vuk Jeremic what happened to the agreements they reached? All they left behind them is the fact that almost all agreements were violated, because Serbia had failed to live up to them.

In my statement I made no mention whatsoever of any oral Brussels dialogue agreements. I commented in general terms, saying that all agreements of the President, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, whether in writing or oral form, were binding, which is reflected also in the judgment of the International Court of Justice in The Hague, whereby Norway had to surrender Greenland in virtue of an oral statement made by its Foreign Minister."
