Participation of Ministry of Foreign Affairs representatives in the panel discussion “International Humanitarian Law – Contemporary Challenges”

tribina crveni_krst_9122016The Acting Assistant Foreign Minister for Security Policy, Ambassador Branimir Filipovic, and the Head of the Department of International Legal Affairs, Ambassador Slavoljub Caric, participated in the panel discussion "International Humanitarian Law – Contemporary Challenges", hosted by the Serbian Red Cross, on 9 December 2016, with the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross Regional Delegation in Belgrade.

MFA representatives spoke on aspects of the Republic of Serbia's security policy in the context of international humanitarian law, i.e. on issues related to arms export control, disarmament and non-proliferation, including the application of international humanitarian law.

Participants in the panel, opened by the President of the Serbian Red Cross, Prof Dr Dragan Radovanovic, also included as panellists Prof Dr Vesna Knezevic Predic, professor at the Faculty of Political Science, as well as Associate Professor Dr Milos Hrnjaz and Dr Zeljko Lezaja, from the same Faculty.

The panel discussion was aimed at encouraging student interest in this area, and contributing to better understanding and acceptance of this branch of law. The audience included students of Law Faculties of Belgrade, Novi Sad, Kragujevac and Nis, the Defence University Military Academy, Belgrade University Faculty of Political Science, Faculty of Security Studies and the Faculty of Business Studies and Law.
