Minister Dacic meets with Prime Minister of MauritiusFirst Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic had talks with Anerood Jugnauth, the Prime Minister of Mauritius, on the fringes of the Summit of Francophone Countries in Atananarivo.

The talks focused on the promotion of political and economic cooperation between the two countries and harmonization of views on issues in the international area. The Mauritian Prime Minister gave an extensive account of his country's perennial territorial problem with the Chagos Archipelago/Islands, and the intention to address the issue within the UN system. In this context, he asked for Serbia's support in the affirmation of the respect of international law. Prime Minister Jugnauth underlined the need to enhance cooperation with Serbia in the areas of economy, tourism and education.

Minister Dacic thanked Mauritius for its support of Serbia's territorial integrity and non-recognition of the unilateral declaration of independence of Kosovo. He further emphasized that Serbia fully shared the assessments of Mauritius regarding the need for upholding international law and for condemnation of double standards.

The Serbian Foreign Minister also pointed out Serbia's readiness to promote bilateral cooperation with Mauritius within the framework of international organizations, the United Nations in particular. Serbia has a high opinion of the Mauritius model of attracting foreign investments and producing results. It is anticipated that the coming years will see continuation of the scholarship programme for Mauritian students, and exchange of high-level visits.
