First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic met today with Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), who is visiting Belgrade.
Minister Dacic thanked OAS Secretary General Almagro for the balanced principle of that organization with regard to Kosovo, underlining that a large number of its members did not recognize Kosovo and Metohija’s unilateral declaration of independence. In his capacity as the Chairperson of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Minister Dacic said that he contemplated the signing a Memorandum of Cooperation between the two organizations. “Your country carries on Tito’s legacy, which is an important reference for the majority of our members”, underlined Mr Almagro, Secretary General of the Organization of American States. Minister Dacic and GS Almagro both noted the progress made in relations between Serbia and the OAS over the past few years, as well as the willingness to further strengthen the cooperation. The OAS Secretary General said that the Organization was considering providing scholarships to its students to continue their education in Serbia, underlining that the organization he represented shared with Serbia the same principle of respect for territorial integrity. |
