mjanmar3First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic received today a farewell call from Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Zaw Tun, who is shortly to end his three-year mission to the Republic of Serbia.

In the talk they particularly pointed to the decades-long tradition of friendly relations between the two countries. These relations are very good with no open issues, while there is room to intensify political and economic cooperation.

Minister Dacic put special emphasis on the principled stance of Myanmar not to recognize the unilateral declaration of Kosovo and Metohija’s independence and expressed his expectation that the Government of Myanmar would continue supporting Serbia’s efforts to find an acceptable solution through dialogue, preserving the territorial integrity of Serbia. The Minister also expressed gratitude for Myanmar’s support in international forums to our endeavours to strengthen cooperation with the South-East Asia region, especially with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). On our part, an interest was shown to intensify political dialogue with Myanmar at high and top levels and to advance cooperation in all areas, especially in the field of economy.

Ambassador U Zaw Tun confirmed the interest of his country for intensified level of cooperation with Serbia in the areas of common interest and expressed his hope that Serbian businessmen would actively participate in the realization of various projects in the trade sector being carried out in Myanmar.
