With great concern and sincere sorrow we have been following the escalation of violence and the suffering of innocent civilians in the friendly Republic of Nigeria. In the run-up to the coming elections in the Republic of Nigeria, scheduled for February 2015, terrorists continue to kill hundreds of innocent people in the relentless attacks on churches and mosques, schools and government institutions.
The Republic of Serbia rejects with indignation and revulsion terrorism as a method for achieving political, ethnic and religiously motivated aims or for resolving outstanding issues with each other. The Republic of Serbia also expresses its full solidarity with the people of Nigeria, with whom we have a long-standing friendship, and extends strong support to the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in its fight against terrorism and violence. At the same time, it expresses readiness, within the limits of its capabilities, to provide all necessary assistance and support to the efforts of the Nigerian Government in addressing terrorism issues. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia expresses its deepest condolences to the Federal Government and people of Nigeria, especially to the families of the dead and displaced persons from the town of Baga. |
