The Republic of Serbia welcomes the historic agreement between the United States and Cuba on “the humanitarian” release of prisoners and the opening of a new chapter in relations between the two countries. Drawing upon our own experience, we are confident that open issues can be resolved only through dialogue and an active engagement aimed at overcoming mutual differences and promoting common values and interests.

The decision on normalizing the US – Cuba relations is important not only for the two countries, but also for the international community as a whole because it symbolizes the triumph of diplomacy, which is particularly important in the context of current international developments.
We believe that following the initial steps in easing the relations, the way will be paved for a constructive approach to addressing all disputed issues in relations between the two countries with which the Republic of Serbia fosters friendly relations.
